Full membership

Full membership is for shiatsu practitioners who are practising and teaching shiatsu.

Current education requirements are a Diploma of Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies (HLT50212, HLT50207 or HLT50202) from a registered training organisation.  Full members must sign a declaration to abide by STAA's Code of Standards and Ethics.

 Ongoing requirements are:

Continuing Professional Education and Development (CPE&D)

Industry standards require full members to update their skills annually by completing 20 hours of CPE&D. Appropriate documentation and evidence must be sent with the Annual Renewal Form due February 1. This is reviewed and ratified by the Membership Secretary.

Professional indeminity insurance & first aid

Full members must have current professional indemnity insurance and senior first aid qualifications.

Member's details (which include expiry dates) are required by Health Provider Companies and are updated monthly. To avoid de-registration and non-payment of client rebates, it is vital that STAA receives current copies of your first aid certificate and professional indemnity insurance when updates are required.

Associate membership

Applies to individuals who are not currently practising shiatsu for monetary reward, or someone who has an interest in shiatsu (e.g. school administrator) wanting to remain in contact with the Association, or who has full registration with another association who wishes to remain in contact with shiatsu community.

Associate members are not required to provide professional indemnity insurance or first aid. Associate members are not listed as practising on our website, are not able to advertise membership and are not registered with the health funds by STAA.

Student membership

This membership applies to those students studying shiatsu. This membership is available for 2 years to cover the duration of the Diploma. If the study is not completed within that time, a request for an extension must be sent and received by STAA (proof will need to be presented). If the time required to complete is more than 6 months, a Student Renewal Application is required for another 2 years.
